The fifth version of the Dairy Production Medicine (DPM) Certificate Program began in August 2005 and ended in October 2007. Version V included a wide variety of hands-on farm problem solving, dairy practice innovations, as well as the latest in dairy production analysis. The program focused on increasing the participating veterinarians skills and knowledge to enable them to further increase the health and productivity of their client's herds, as well as increase the value of their consulting services. As in past years, Penn State University and the University of Pennsylvania were the primary collaborators in organizing the program, and included faculty members and practitioners from around the country, as guest speakers. The Dairy Production Medicine Certificate Program V consisted of ten 3-day intensive workshops spread across a 2-½ year course. Each module included an intensive hands-on session as an integral part of that module. The topics covered focused on updating and refocusing the dairy practitioner by providing skills and knowledge in production medicine.

Continuing education credits are offered for each module and are determined based on the amount of instructional and hands-on hours involved. Credits generally range from 15-20 per module.
